GSL are delighted to have been awarded the 2020 Murdoch Award, the ultimate accolade in leadwork. Having won it previously in 2008 this puts GSL in an exclusive group of only three companies who in the long history of the award have won it twice or more.
The winning project fought off some stiff opposition and involved the complete re-roofing of a Grade 1 Listed Country House. 120 tons of lead was installed in many and varied applications, including flat and pitched roofing, parapet gutters, cornice cappings, hip, ridge and flashings in Codes of lead ranging from 5 to 8. Ornamental cast lead hopper heads and rainwater pipes were also installed. The project was completed on time and below budget, under a temporary roof structure constructed from more than twenty miles of scaffold tube.
Unfortunately rather than the usual gala dinner and awards presentation this year's ceremony, hosted by LCA Chairman Allan Anderson, was a Covid-compliant Zoom presentation. GSL were honoured to receive the award from Dr Linda Murdoch, the daughter of Richard Murdoch who’s name the award carries.
